Gareth Bale netted a brace to inspire Real Madrid to a 3-0 win over Real Sociedad in their opening La Liga clash.
Zinedine Zidane was without the services of Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and Pepe. Although, Bale was fit enough to start.
Los Blancos broke the deadlock after two minutes as Bale rose well to head home Dani Carvajal’s cross into the bottom corner top open his account for the season.
Los Blancos enjoyed a dominant opening spell, but could have seen their lead wiped out after 30 minutes when Asier Illaramendi was through on goal, however the midfielder opted to pass with only Kiko Casilla to beat.
The visitors eventually extended their lead in the 40th minute as Marco Asensio collected a pass from Raphael Varane, before producing a fine chip to mark his league debut with a goal.
Real continued to dominate in the second half and were unlucky not to have added a third as Toni Kroos’ volley rattled the crossbar in the 55th minute.
Zidane opted for a change after the hour-mark and introduced Lucas Vazquez for the impressive Asensio.
With the introduction of Isco and James Rodriguez, Los Blancos continued to search for more goals, but were unable to carve out openings.
However, it was Bale who rounded off the scoring in stoppage time, as the Welshman latched onto a pass from Rodriguez before rounding the goalkeeper to slot into an empty net.
