A double from Keagan Dolly handed Mamelodi Sundowns a 2-0 win over Jomo Cosmos in an Absa Premiership match at Olen Park in Potchefstroom on Sunday afternoon.
The home side started the better of the two teams and had the first shot on goal in the 12th minute, but right-back Sipho Mngomezulu saw his stinging long-range effort sail inches over the crossbar.
Five minutes later Brice Aka latched onto a long ball from the defence, but his 16-yard shot was well-saved by Dennis Onyango, low and to his left.
In the 20th minute Cheslyn Jampies fired a 30-yard free-kick just over the crossbar.
Two minutes later, though, and Jampies was at fault in defence as he lost Dolly inside the box which allowed the Sundowns attacking midfielder to head home a left-wing cross from Themba Zwane.
Jampies tried to make up for his error in the 32nd minute, but his 20-yard free-kick deflected just wide of the target with the keeper wrong-footed.
Cosmos controlled the remainder of the half, but could not pull a goal back before the break.
Sundowns nearly doubled their lead in the 48th minute after a low left-wing cross from Katlego Mashego saw Zwane meet the ball, but he was brilliantly denied from close range by the Cosmos keeper.
Ten minutes later it was the turn of the Sundowns keeper to make a spectacular save with Onyango diving full length to his right to tip a 30-yard shot from Thabang Monare around the post.
In the 67th minute some great build-up play from Sundowns saw a left-wing cross from Dolly chested into the path of Anthony Laffor by Zwane, but the striker fired narrowly over the goal from 16 yards out.
The icing on the cake for Sundowns was their second goal in the 93rd minute when a quick breakout saw Laffor draw the goalkeeper and unselfishly slip the ball for Dolly to tap into an empty net.
