Mpumalanga Black Aces maintained their unbeaten record this season thanks to a brace from Collins Mbesuma as they beat Golden Arrows 2-1 in their Absa Premiership encounter on Wednesday night at the King Zwelithini Stadium in Durban.
The KwaZulu-Natal side looked to continue with their fine form and it was Deon Hotto who gave the visitors a fright early on with a shot on goal, but Shu-aib Walters was quick to react.
The experienced Mbesuma also responded with a shot on target to try and give his side an early lead shortly after, but Maximilian Mbaevu made a good save.
In the 13th minute Arrows broke the deadlock as Hotto scored and gave his side a lead with a left foot finish after receiving an assist from Gladwin Shitolo.
Mbesuma persisted and got his reward as he scored an equaliser for Aces in the 32nd minute.
In the dying minutes of the first half it was Andile Fikizolo who gave the Aces defence a hard time, but unfortunately he couldn’t find the back of the net and this saw the match going to break all square.
The second half began with high intensity as Mbesuma netted his brace to give Aces a 2-1 lead in the 49th minute.
Walters also came in handy denying Mabhuti Khanyeza an equaliser after Hotto had supplied a good cross.
Siyabonga Dube searched for an equaliser for Arrows, but his shot missed the target as the game maintained its intensity.
Lebogang Manyama also did well at the back for Aces as he cleared away a cross from Hotto as his team maintained the lead.
In the last five minutes Rodney Ramagalela took a powerful shot, but missed to the left of the target.
In the dying minutes of the match Manyama’s chance of scoring was denied by Mbaevu.
The last opportunity for Arrows fell to Thembela Sikhakhane, but his cross was saved by Walters and this saw Aces taking the three points away from home.
