Expensive French teenager Anthony Martial scored late to seal the points as Manchester United beat Liverpool 3-1 at Old Trafford on Saturday.
Officially the biggest game in world football with over 700-million viewers worldwide, it was United who sent their fans home happy as they enjoy all the bragging rights tonight.
After a goalless first half Daley Blind, Ander Herrera (pen) and 19-year-old Martial – who cost United £36-million from Monaco, a fee that could eventually rise to £57.6m – netted as Christian Benteke’s 84th-minute goal for the Reds proved to be scant consolation in the end.
The result moved the Red Devils above Arsenal on the Premier League table into second place on goal-difference, five points behind leaders Manchester City. Liverpool remain down in ninth, three points behind United.
