United beat Spurs, Chelsea held

Manchester United won their first Premier League game of the season at Old Trafford on Saturday, while Chelsea drew at home.

New signings Matteo Darmian, Memphis Depay and Morgan Schneiderlin all started and Bastian Schweinsteiger played 30 minutes as Louis van Gaal’s side beat Tottenham Hotspur thanks to a 22nd-minute Kyle Walker own-goal in the day’s early kick-off.

In the late fixture at Stamford Bridge, Jose Mourinho’s Blues were held 2-2 by a resilient Swansea City. Oscar opened the scoring in the 23rd minute but Andre Ayew hit back within minutes.

A Federico Fernandez own-goal put Chelsea ahead again but then goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois was shown a straight red card just seven minutes after half-time. Bafetimbi Gomis converted the spot-kick to seal a 2-2 draw.

Saturday’s EPL Results

Man Utd 1-0 Tottenham
Bournemouth 0-1 Aston Villa
Everton 2-2 Watford
Leicester 4-2 Sunderland
