Premier League side Aston Villa have secured the services of Ghanaian striker Jordan Ayew.
“Aston Villa Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of Jordan Ayew,” read a statement on the club’s official website.
“The 23-year-old forward has signed a five-year deal with the Club and joins from French side Lorient for an undisclosed fee.”
The Marseille-born forward spent just one season at Lorient, scoring 13 goals in 33 appearances, yet Villa boss Tim Sherwood is delighted with his new recruit.
“I’m really pleased to bring Jordan to the football club,” Sherwood said. “He is a fantastic young player who is perfectly suited to the Premier League.”
Ayew, who has 28 caps and six goals for Ghana, was part of the Black Stars team that finished runners up to Ivory Coast at this year’s Afcon, while he was also part of the national squad that did battle at last year’s Fifa World Cup.
Ayew, who joins fellow former Ligue 1 players Jordan Amavi and Idrissa Gueye at Villa Park, will look to fill the shoes of Christian Benteke, who last week left Villa to join EPL rivals Liverpool.
