Bafana Bafana coach Shakes Mashaba was pleased with the win against Mauritius today, but admits not too much can be read into beating the island nation.
The national team put a horror week behind them with a comprehensive 3-0 win at Dobsonville Stadium, but afterwards Mashaba seemed non-plussed with the win against a team who came to ‘park the bus’.
“We played according to the plan,” the coach said after the match. “It is always a problem when you play against a team who have come for a draw … to park the bus. But that means we still work on our players’ match intelligence.
“We need to know how to dismantle a team like this. At one stage it looked like we were playing right into their hands, running into areas where they parked the bus, rather than stretching them and going to the wings and to score goals.
“But I don’t think we can rate them as a team that would scare us. Even if we go play them out in Mauritius, I don’t see any danger with them.”
Bafana will travel to the island nation in two weeks’ time for the second leg of the 2016 CHAN qualifier.
