Goals from Bongani Zungu and David Zulu handed Bafana Bafana a 2-0 win over Cote d’Ivoire in the Nelson Mandela Challenge at the Mbombela Stadium.
Bafana started like a house on fire and dominated proceedings from the onset, while they had a goal disallowed, although replays suggest the Vuyisile Wana was onside.
David Zulu looked lively in the early exchanges,and went close in the 12th minute as he curled a left-footed effort just wide of the upright.
Bafana eventually took advantage of their dominance, as some good build-up play ended up with Patrick Phungwayo teeing up Zungu,who made no mistake from 12-yards out.
However, the visitors started see more of the ball in the closing stages of the game but they failed to trouble Bafana goalkeeper, Jackson Mabokgwane, in between the sticks.
Bafana then doubled their lead seven minutes after the halftime break, as David Zulu pounced on a error from the Ivorian goalkeeper to score into an empty net from 20-yards out.
Lamola came close to adding a third in the 66th minute but his powerful effort from distance was palmed away by the Ivorian goalkeeper.
Mabogkwane was hardly tested during the game but made a crucial save in the 70th minute to keep the Ivorians at bay.
Bafana managed to see out the rest of the game with relative ease, and Shakes Mashaba even handed out a few debuts to a few youngsters, including Siyanda Ngubo, Fagrie Lakay and Dumisani Msibi.
