Athletico Madrid through to the next round

It was an exciting Wednesday
night in the UEFA Champions
League with 17 goals scored across eight games as Atletico Madrid and Arsenal made sure of their place in the knockout
stages.

In Group A, Atletico qualified for the next round of the Champions League in emphatic fashion with a 4-0 drubbing of Olympiakos which sees them at the top of the standings with 12 points.

Juventus increased their hopes of
qualification from Group A with a 2-0 win over Malmo which leaves the Italian side in second place on nine points, followed by Olympiakos on six points and then Malmo on three points.

In Group B, Real Madrid maintain their 100 percent win record with a 1-0 win over Basel while Liverpool kept their qualification hopes alive with a 2-2 draw against Ludogorets.

Real Madrid top the standings with 15 points, followed by Basel on six points, then Liverpool and Ludogorets on four points each.

In Group C, Bayer Leverkusen failed to confirm their place in the knockout stages after losing 1-0 to Monaco while Zenit revived their hopes with a 1-0 win over Benfica.

The results mean Leverkusen still top Group C with nine points, followed by Monaco in second place on eight points, Zenit in third on seven points and Benifca in last spot on four points.

In Group D, Arsenal qualified for the knockout stages of the competition with an impressive 2-0 win over Borussia Dortmund, thus ending the German sides 100 percent win record in this season’s Champions League.

Dortmund top the group with 12 points followed by Arsenal with ten points while Anderlecht’s 2-0 win over Galatasaray sees them in third place with five points and the latter with one point.
